DIY Small Bubble Cloner – 8 Site
One very popular way of cloning medical marijuana is by using a deep water culture (DWC) or many times called a bubble cloner system. Bubble cloners use the deep water culture technology to both provide high success rates, as well as giving the grower a low maintenance system. Bubble cloners work by placing your clippings directly into the highly oxygenated water in your bubble cloner system. It is very important to make sure that the water or nutrient solution you are using to clone has a high level of oxygen, as well as a good pH range of 5-6 to ensure optimal growth potential. This type of system is very easy to use and easy to maintain. You don’t have to worry about sprinkler heads being clogged. The system is so simple you really just have to maintain a good pH and make sure there is enough water to keep the clippings submersed.
Total time to build the system: 30-60 minutes
Total cost to build the system: $25 <—- Compare to the Daisy Cloner – 8 Site Aeroponic Cloner (Same size, but aeroponics instead of DWC)
Here are the materials you will need to get started:
| Materials | Price |
| 1 – 2 Gal paint bucket with lid | $3.50 |
| 1 – air pump | $10.00 |
| 1 – large air stone | $7.50 |
| 1/4” air tube | $2.00 |
| 8 – 2” mesh net pots | $.20 x 8 = $1.60 |
| 8 – 2” foam inserts | $.10 x 8 = $0.80 |
The recommended tools for this project are:
- Drill
- 2″ drill bit
- 1/4″ drill bit
Here is the step-by-step guide to build your own 8 site bubble cloner: 1.) Either drill your 8 clone sites into the lid using the 2″ drill bit (highly recommended), or trace your mesh net pots onto the lid and cut out using a serrated knife (get the cut started using your drill to drill a hole into the inside of the circle). Make sure to place your plant sites to the outside of the lid to be able to fit all your spots in. (Optional: put one more plant spot in the center of the lid)
2.) Drill a 1/4″ hole into the lid where you will run your air tube. Clean off any debris/slivers left from drilling or cutting.
3.) Run air hose to the bottom of the bucket and connect the air stone. If you want you can use hot glue to secure the air stone to the center bottom of the bucket.
4.) Place inserts with a new cutting of your plant, place the pots in the plant sites, connect the air tube to the pump, fill with room temperature water with a pH of 5-6, and turn on!
Usage Tips
- Keep pH of water between 5-6
- Run your air pump 24/7
- Use of cloning nutrients is optional
- Use of a humidity dome will help keep humidity higher, but you can also use an Anti Wilt solution that you spray on the leaves to help them from losing too much water through transpiration
